2008 Vision Statement

 By Nina Atwood

This exercise is similar to the life vision exercise, narrowed down to the current year. If you imagine yourself at the end of 2008, what will you be celebrating? You might frame it up as The Seven F’s:

What will these seven significant life categories look like to you one year from today? (write a mini vision statement for each one)

  1. Family
  2. Friends
  3. Faith
  4. Fitness
  5. Financial
  6. Function (career)
  7. Fun

The following questions may help you identify how you can work on each area this year:

Family – do you have relationships with family members that have grown distant? Are there people who love you who made mistakes in the past, and are you now ready to forgive them? Is it time to begin carving out time for family on a regular basis?

Friends – do you hang out with people who aren’t good for you? Is it time to upgrade your friendship circle? Is it time to grow your friendship circle? Have you neglected good friends as you rush around consumed with work and other things?

Faith – are you neglecting your spirit? Is it time to re-calibrate your spiritual connection with others and with your higher power? Do you have a regular schedule for meditation, prayer, and other spirit-growing activities?

Fitness – how healthy is your body (one of your most precious life assets)? Are you energized each day, or are you drained by too much of the wrong kind of food and lack of exercise? How will you carve out time to focus on your health this year and what will you do differently?

Financial – are you paying attention to your balance sheet? Is your money growing, or are you losing money through too much buying and debt? Are you earning the most you can with your talents and skills? Is it time to think ahead and re-calibrate how you handle money so that you create a good future for yourself?

Function (career) – are you satisfied with the work you do? Are you getting paid to do something you love? Do you enjoy the people you work with, share common values with them? Are you on your game, setting goals and achieving them?

Fun – how do you plan to refresh your mind, spirit, and body this year? What kind of recreation (re-creation) will you do on a regular basis so that you bring your best self to all of your endeavors and relationships?

As you write your mini vision statements, dare to be bold! Dare to imagine yourself changing for the better, your life more fulfilling. The more you dream, the more you achieve.
